The Faculty of Divinity at Trinity College is thrilled to launch “South Asian Christianity: Ecumenical Engagement between Anglicans and Oriental Orthodox Christians in Southern Ontario.” This exciting initiative celebrates the rich Christian traditions of South Asia and fosters meaningful connections between Anglican and Oriental Orthodox communities in the greater Toronto area.
What to Expect
Throughout 2025-2026, we will host a series of lectures, panels, and cultural events that explore the historical, theological, and cultural heritage of South Asian Christianity in its various expressions. These events promise to illuminate the enduring legacy of Christianity in South Asia and its relevance in Canada today.
Highlights include:
- A historical overview of South Asian Christianity in the GTA.
- Theological explorations of liturgies and traditions from various Orthodox communities.
- A panel discussion on contextual theology and new ecumenical opportunities.
- A closing cultural celebration featuring music, dance, and authentic cuisine.
Why It Matters
Toronto’s South Asian community represents more than a fifth of the population, yet the unique Christian traditions within this group are often underrepresented. This project bridges that gap, creating a platform for mutual learning and collaboration while welcoming South Asians into Trinity College’s theological and educational life.
Join Us!
This initiative is a collaborative effort between Trinity College faculty, alumni, and local church leaders. We aim to educate, connect, and empower each other to ensure these rich traditions continue to flourish.
