Appointment Type: 8 Month Contract, 2025-2026 Academic year.

The following are anticipated dates and will be confirmed when the University of Toronto finalizes the calendar for the 2025-2026 academic year.

Semester #1: Saturday, August 9, 2025 – Tuesday, December 23, 2025
Semester #2: Sunday, January 4, 2026 – Friday May 1, 2026

Classification & Hiring Range: For 2024-2025, compensation was a single room in residence along with a discounted meal plan and a $1,364.00 pre-service training stipend. Note that compensation for 2025-2026 will be similar but is currently being reviewed.

Time Commitment: 15 hours per week on average.

Reports to: Assistant Dean of Students – Residence Life.

Trinity College is a vibrant and diverse academic community with a rich history and excellent local and international reputation. Since its founding in 1851, the College has valued and fostered a high level of academic achievement with some 2,000 currently registered students, 450+ of whom live at the College. Trinity College grounds comprise spectacular historic buildings, and the College is among the smallest and most prestigious colleges on the St. George Campus of the University of Toronto. Trinity’s campus currently consists of four main buildings and is located in the central Toronto downtown core, steps from the Bloor-St. George subway and Queen’s Park.

Position Summary:
The role of the Community Advisors (CAs) is to build, promote, and maintain safe, supportive and inclusive residence communities at Trinity College. Through formal and informal programs, events, and activities, CAs will also support the mission of the Office of the Dean of Students in promoting personal and academic growth and development of students and support their transition to university and residence life.

To help meet the needs of the residents, CAs are expected to know all students in their communities, and plan and facilitate programs based on the needs of the students. CAs will also work collaboratively as a team to plan residence-wide programs and events for all residence students. CAs will work collaboratively with Trinity College Academic Dons and elected student leaders to maintain positive communities, and act as a liaison between the Office of the Dean of Students and residence community members.

CAs are expected to help manage community by ensuring that residence community standards are upheld, and address violations and support in emergency situations as necessary.

Residence Life, Community Development, Health and Wellness and Programming

  • Regularly meet with students in assigned residence area to form connections and get to know those students individually and by name.
  • Regularly organize and attend social opportunities and events to meet the needs of the assigned community, and the entire residence population with a focus around building a strong residence community.
  • Create educational passive programming in assigned residence communities. Specifically, create and maintain passive programming on assigned bulletin boards four times throughout the academic year in addition to regularly updating advertised events.
  • Offer opportunities for and encourage student involvement within residence, at Trinity, and at the University of Toronto.
  • Organize, promote and participate in wellness related activities.
  • Organize and facilitate a building-wide social activity once per semester (in pairs).
  • Understand general risk management principles and have approval for all events from the Assistant Dean of Students – Residence Life well in advance of events taking place.
  • Respond to and address violations of the Trinity College Community Standards by students.
  • Assist the Duty Don, Community Wellness Coordinator, Supervisor on-call, Campus Safety, Fire Department, Toronto Police and other community services/resources/authorities as directed in emergency situations.

Supporting Growth and Transition to University and Residence Life

  • Act as a source of information to connect students with programs, resources, and on-campus opportunities at Trinity College and the University of Toronto
  • Create awareness about on-campus events, programs, and leadership opportunities and encourage students to participate.
  • Be familiar with on-campus supports and services for residents in need and encourage students to access these supports and services.
  • Work with Academic Dons and elected student leaders in assigned communities to ensure student needs are being met through holistic programming.

Qualifications:
Applicants should be an undergraduate student at the University of Toronto, ideally entering their 3rd year of study or higher. Previous experience working in a residence life setting is considered an asset. Applicants who are hired must be First Aid certified by the contract start date.
